Steam’s up!

Just this week I’ve discovered the following item. . .

Steam cleaner

Steam cleaner

It’s a small (about the size of a small kettle – hence the iPhone for scale), yet surprisingly powerful, steam cleaner. Originally to be used for cleaning upholstery, carpet stains etc (it comes with a selection of spouts and brushes) I have found that it makes a fab took for general cleaning and degreasing of small, complicated components from the shed!

For example, I have just used it to help de-grease an old bike cassette and found it made extremely short and easy work of the task – the jets of hot pressurised steam get to places that even a small toothbrushes simply can’t reach.

It’s a fab find – I recommend it to anyone for their workshop or shed!

Cut!! The Girls in action!

Cut!! The Girls in action!

Following the suggestions received from several Festival promoters lately, we in The Cakes finally bit the bullet and decided to record some video of us playing our material in a ‘live’ situation. . .

So, last Saturday we hired a small hall with the correct ambience, enlisted the services of Mr Pete Bilk (sound and video recordist extraordinaire – visit his website here >>), dressed in our best bib and tucker and set to…

Here are some shots of us taken throughout the day – unfortunately what they don’t really portray is how mind numbingly cold the hall was (not great for trying to look relaxed whilst playing intricate and delicate music!). Although the hall in fact had an excellent heating system, this proved to be so loud that we had to turn it off for the duration of the filming! (hence the hastily foraged halogen heater that threw a strangely satisfying glow over the whole proceedings).

Editing is well under way and we hope to have several tunes posted to both YouTube and our own website in the new week or so … as ever stay tuned for details!

At the weekend The Cakes did a slot at The Centre Acoustic Night in Barnet.

Amongst the audience was photographer Zoran who took some very nice shots of us… Here are just a few of those he took – many thanks to him for sending them through to us!
