‘The Cakes’ have just uploaded some new video footage to their YouTube Channel – both of a recent live gig and some of rehearsals, but all featuring our newest member, Mr Ewan Cameron.

The footage is unashamedly ‘raw’ (and we look decidedly grumpy in the rehearsals but only due to the pressure of ‘red light fever’!) but hopefully give one an idea of how the band now sounds with our fourth member.

Possibly not my best look!?

Last week I had to run a photoshoot for a work project in a ‘clean room’ laboratory environment. Unfortunately this meant wearing a lot of extremely uncomfortable, not to mention unflattering, garb (and you can’t even see the bright purple rubber gloves and attractive overshoes!)

Here is a shot that gives you the general idea – I even had to wear a ‘beard cover’. . . sexy!

This weekend I played my local arts centre (The Maltings) in a night of folk music – part of a new ‘First Friday’ series of concerts.

It’s a great place to play, with fantastic acoustics and a really intimate atmosphere.

Cameras are discouraged during performances, so here are three (rather fuzzy, I am afraid) sneakily taken shots…

Starting the night was a great slot from young singer / guitarist Simon Stephenson (a graduate of the Newcastle Folk Music course):

Then came a couple of sets from King Alfred’s Cakes – note my fabulous new shirt!:

The night also featured a post-interlude set from the improvised world music jazz trio of Batkin/Roberts/Andrews:

All in all it was  great night and we look forward to doing it again sometime!

Snow Day 2012!

It’s very rare here in the UK that we get heavy falls of snow – when they do come they are both really fun, and really annoying in equal measures!

We have just had a ‘snow day’ this weekend just past, and here is a picture… luckily it has only lasted a couple of days and nothing has been too treacherous…
