On September 14th this year the soul band I play in (Soulfish) is playing a big charity gig in September in aid of the restoration of St Albans’ old cinema, The Odyssey.

This activity also ties in nicely with the Odeon Journey project I’ve worked on last year…

The band asked me to do a few bits of marketing material to support the gig – here’s a big banner that is up outside the wreck of the cinema itself. I like the juxtaposition of the poster against the crumbling / distressed fittings and features. . .

The mighty Soulfish!

The mighty Soulfish!

If anyone is in the area and fancies coming to the gig – here are some details from the organiser:

Hi Everybody

I have already mentioned to some of you about a fundraiser I’m involved with for the renovation of the Odyssey Cinema in St Albans.

For those of you who don’t know this will give us the equivalent of our very own  REX in St. Albans – if you have already experienced the REX I need say no more but those that have not it is a cinema experience like no other. See here for more details and take my word for it once you have tried it you will not want to go to a ‘regular’ cinema ever again.

Soulfish Concert – Friday 14th September 8pm  – tickets £15 available from St Albans Arena who will take their 10% cut but if you let me know how many you want I can get them for you and 100% of  the money goes towards the Odyssey restoration project  jill.leslie1@btopenworld.com

This is the last bit of money needed to get this up and running – should be a fab night for a great cause!!

Tell everybody you know and sell sell sell – look forward to hearing from you with big numbers.

Jazz not welcome here!

A mate just sent me this! I am sure it’s a mock-up, but very funny none the less!:

Jazz - no thanks!

I am not sure my jazz playing friends would agree of course!?

(Apologies for scarcity of posts -– must try harder!)

So the St Albans Folk Festival is now underway, and the first event at the Town Hall in St Albans was a great success…

I was pleased to see that the marketing materials I had a hand in seemed to do a good job in terms of the numbers of people attending –  here’s a shot of one of the outside banners that was used to draw in the punters… (note the customisable right hand portion so that we can re-use the banner year on year (shame about the sellotape but it was all we had to hand at the time!)).

I took a few general photos at the event and hope to post these up asap – in the meantime the Festival has a few days to run so keep an eye on the official website for details >>
